A previous upgrade of Microsoft GP has failed. To proceed you need to upgrade your database.

Posted on by 210

Hi All,

We are planning to create a new company and so navigated to GP Utilities. But got the below message.

"A previous upgrade of Microsoft GP has failed. To proceed you need to upgrade your database. All accounting data should be backed up."

But we haven't received any such error messages in our test environment. And both environments are using GP10.

I've also cross checked with the below SQL query, it was showing 10 for all the records in both.

Select db_verMajor,* from DYNAMICS..DB_Upgrade

So we have the below open questions now.

  1. Why did this error occur?
  2. Should we proceed with upgrade? What will be impacted if we upgrade?
  3. Will this again require any separate workstation upgrades too?

Please suggest on these. Many thanks in advance.

Before you go any further make sure all databases are backed up. Hopefully some of these tips will help. If you click to proceed does it show which companies still need to be upgraded? Do you have any companies that have been deleted but still exist in your SY01500 table?

Have you tried running the ClearCompanies script, making sure you have recent backups of the GP databases?

We usually won't be prompted to upgrade anything or show a upgrade failed unless the DU000030 table is showing something failed, there is a discrepancy between the versions of the product dictionary files and what is showing in the DB_Upgrade / DU000020 tables, or there is a new feature listed in the Dynamics.set file, that isn't installed, i.e. showing in the DB_Upgrade/DU000020 tables.

    Thanks

    Hi Richard,

Thanks for your prompt response! We checked these tables.

The versionBuild in table DU000020 is same as DB_Upgrade table (db_verBuild).

And this table DU000030 has 13 records, errornum and status columns are 0 for all the records.

So can we proceed with the upgrade?

Please could you advise what was this upgrade regarding? Is this some kind of year end update?

What is in DU0000020 and DU0000030? It is advisable to always truncate the DU0000030 before performing an upgrade.
