Hello,
we are building a new ERP based on Dynamics AX 2009 - approx. 35 users, 2 locations, expected db size - 50 Gb.
What is your backup hardware spec? We are based in hurricane prone area that also floods. Server room is located on the 3rd floor though and has no windows.
I have an option to go with either
- Buffalo TeraStation III iSCSI Rackmount NAS server with 4x 2TB HDD in RAID 5 configuration
or
- Dell server PV MD3220i,RKMNT,iSCSI, 24 Bay, Dual Controller
What would you suggest? Thank you!

I have the same question (0)Hello again, DPetrov
Currently we're using tape backups, which are then later stored off site. Most recently we've been moving to a virtualized environment (AOS servers, Database server, and client servers). What this allows us to do is to have images of the virtual server sent to a different location on a nightly basis for disaster recovery purposes. Should we lose our main facility, we should be able to be back up and running (albeit with slightly limited resources) within a day.
As for a suggestion between the hardware above, I don't really know if one will be superior to the other, depending on your other business needs. I suspect that the Dell would be a bit more flexible with 24 bays as opposed to 4, but you could end up with higher cost based on number of drives. Sorry to be ambiguous on the suggestion part, but in the end you know your business much better than I do. :)
