Duplicate transactions in GL30000

Situation is that the client attempted a year end close in GP 2018.  It appeared to fail (lack of DISK space, after IT told him it was good to go).  Attempted to REVERSE the close that seemed to work.  So then IT cleared disk space and the user attempted a second time.  This time completed.  So now the OPEN year is 2021 and the current history year is 2020.  CORRECT

This appeared to work.  Until user printed Trial Balance for history year 2020 and sees that all transaction lines are duplicated.  Looking at the GL30000 table, after CHECK LINKS and full RECONCILE in the application, show perfect duplication of the JE's for the entire year.

DEX_ROW_ID

seqnumbr actindx actindx ACTNUMBR_1 ACTNUMBR_2 ACTNUMBR_3 ACTDESCR HSTYEAR JRNENTRY RCTRXSEQ SOURCDOC
1667365 5000500 6215 6215 800 1205 0 Movie Passes 2020 323973 1 GJ
1667366 5001000 6789 6789 800 7215 150 COGS SU Clothing-Internal 2020 323973 1 GJ
1667367 5000500 6215 6215 800 1205 0 Movie Passes 2020 323973 1 GJ
1667368 5001000 6789 6789 800 7215 150 COGS SU Clothing-Internal 2020 323973 1 GJ

So looking at this snip - note the

DEX ROW - one per line - OK

SEQNUMBR - repeats in line 3

JRNENTRY - same for all three lines

QUESTION

Can we create a script to remove the duplicate DEX_ROW lines from the GL30000

Sorry about the Excel Table pasted here - did it as single rows and it generated this massive table - tried to fix - oh well - hate me now - lol

Hi Bill, by any chance did they back up the database before they closed?

To answer your question, yes it can be done.

Challenge is that the process was done a couple of times - and he is not sure of the value of the last backup - only other goes back to end of last week - apparently this was done on Monday, Tuesday and reported to me on Wednesday - so of course the other users were allowed to work on the system with no known issues to stop them from processing current year transactions.

When I look at the current year, there are no duplications, the year end appears to be closed correctly - only transactions for prior year dates are all the BBF lines - but they all show OPENYEAR 2021

So, I am thinking clearing out the GL30000 of the duplicate records should work.

Arch can you suggest a course of action - what is the first thing ?  Other than ensure we have a good backup.

    Thanks

    Hello,

I was asking a colleague about this, back up the database and the table as well.  Proceed with the delete, are you able to create a SQL script to delete the duplicates (are you familiar enough with SQL?)

Honestly Arch, I thought I had this figured out, but if there is a quicker way to do this, and you can provide some assistance that would be gratefully appreciated.

Can you please share 20 lines of data that is duplicated?  Maybe put it in a dropbox (as your sample above is squished).  Thank you.
