Please check the port with command netstat -a

Your named instance is probably not listening on port 1433.  By default named instances listen on a "random" port and the SQL Browser Service is used to resolve the instance name to its current port.

So first try removing the Port= specification.  Also you can select a fixed port for your named instance using SQL Server Configuration Manager.

today i had the same error.

the reason was a vpn client using the same port(s) as nav 2009. i deactivated the vpn client (checkpoint) and all was ok again.

You can try by adding Server IP Address in host file of Client and try..

Another suggestion is to delete all instances of the account from SQL, and delete the NAV account. Then recreate the NAV account and re add the permissions and then syncronise the single login. We had a similar issue when users were renamed in Active Directory.

We had the same issue - I managed to fix by adding a SQL Server ODBC data source on the local machine. Could be a local permissions issue - but adding the ODBC data source fixed it for us.  (ODBC data source, add, SQL Server, type in a name, description, select the server, and keep clicking next and finish)
