Data import error:"Issue exists in auto generation of number sequence"

Hey Axperts,

I have been trying to import customer master through data management tool in AX7 using "Customers" standard data entity, I have marked "Auto-Generate" for customer account field. And I am facing a number sequence error while the data gets inserted into staging.  When I check the execution log I see the below error.

Error: "Issue exists in auto generation of number sequence

           Issue exist in generate staging data

           '4' 'Customers' record(s) inserted in staging"

I checked number sequence setup for Customer account and it is proper it is as below:

Note: Gives the same error irrespective of Continuous is marked or not for the number sequence code.

Any quick inputs would be appreciated!

    Hi Ashu49,

    I assume you have setup the number sequence on the Accounts receivable parameters as well? Have you tried to create a new customer using the normal customer form to see if the number sequence is actually working or not?

    When the records are inserted in the staging table, does the records have a customer account number from the number sequence?

    Hi Andre,

    Yes the number sequence is setup in Accounts receivable parameters. I am able to successfully create a customer from a normal Customer form which takes the customer number according to the setup number sequence. However the issue occurs only during import through data management tool.

    The inserted records in staging table doesn't have customer account number from the number sequence, instead they are numbered as 1, 2, 3.. so on

    Have you tried unchecking "Auto-generate" to see what happens?

    Hey Leandro,

    I tried that earlier and I see an error message "The data value violates integrity constraints." in the execution log and data even doesn't get to staging table.

    Hi Ashu49,

    Is the data import started in the correct company? If so, there might be a bug where it picks the wrong number sequence.

    The error about "data value violated integrity constraints" might be due to a mandatory field in the staging table which was not provided in the source or with a default. I guess it indeed missed the customer account number then. So the defaulting is doing something, but might pick the wrong number sequence. Or maybe the staging is using temporary numbers which will be replaced when you copy the data to the target.

    I haven't used the auto number functionality in AX7 yet, but will test it this week as well as it will be required for a current project.

    Hey guys,

    Thanks a lot for your time and inputs!

    I have figured out the issue, and it's an issue with standard AX. An application hot fix (Metadata) is available for this which can be found in the LCS as a part of AX update2. I have installed it, tested it to be working fine.

    Not sure whether I can share the Hotfix KB Article number here for the same.

    Note: That hotfix has a common fix that addresses auto-generation of number sequences across all the data entities.
