Is it possible to use VS Code with NAV 2016 Objects?

Posted on by 17,965 Super User 2024 Season 2

Just a question out of curiosity.

I tried open Cronus NAV 2016 database using NAV 2018 client and Windows client is running fine.

When I try to map to VS Code it is unable to download symbols.

DId anybody tried that or any suggestions about it?

If you have upgraded a database to NAV 2018, this database does not contains symbols and you cannot generate them only with finsql. You need to import symbols from the NAV 2018 DVD via Powershell.

Check Saurav link or also the recommended upgrade process here:

    Saurav,

I have not tried this but have you generatedsymbolreference using the finsq.exe command for that database and did you use the AL extension from NAV 2018 DVD.

    Thanks.

But How Modern Dev. Environment identifies that database is not in NAV 2018. Is it related to some objects in the database?

No, not possible. Modern Development Environment is supported started from NAV 2018.
