Security roles mapped to buttons

Posted on by Microsoft Employee

Hi

I have spent hours trying to ascertain which roles activate certain buttons in Dynamics AX 2012 R2. I require a simple map. This button is activated by these security roles.....

I am trying to find which role turns on the Accounts Payable/Common/Purchase Orders/All Purchase Orders/'Receive' tab/Journals/PRODUCT RECEIPT without activating the Generate Product Receipt button.

PLEASE HELP!

    Hi Simon,

As you  can customize each role giving them the ability to click on buttons or not, this list would be useless very soon after implementing AX. What you need would be to create your own tool (for example an SQL query) which could give you clear map of your Role to buttons authorizations at a defined time and you could then developp a tool analyzing this extraction to check if your map is compliant with SOD / Governance etc ...

Hi Simon. I'm not sure what you are struggling with? You can get exactly the exact roles / privileges etc that you are looking for using the above procedures? Also you can get alot of what you need using the Security Development tool.

PS: I'm sure every AX user on the planet would be over the moon if someone were to create a list of every button in Dynamics AX and list the security roles that activate said button.

Thanks for all the help but I'm afraid this is a massive fail. Without a simple map of button to role, i have no hope of working out which roles to assign. I tried trial and error, adding each role, testing, removing and adding a new role and have exhausted every possibility.

I have also noticed inconsistencies where the same roles assigned to the same user in two different environments (Production and Training) produce different menus.

I suspect the diabolical implementation of this product is behind the inconsistencies.

I will have to investigate the segregation of duties functionality to see if I can allow the user to view the receipts list without the ability to generate a new receipt.

Thanks once again for your prompt replies.

    Regards

    Simon

Hi Simon. My Apologies, I sent through the "reciepts list" menu item. If you want to drill down to the actual menuitem. You can locate it on the form, then RightClick -> Addins -> Open in New Window -> Open Used Menu Item.

Please use personalize option on right click, check on tree control where the button is go to info tab and press edit. Locate the same button and find the properties of the button.

If its menu item button you will have type an name available in the properties

Then you can browse them on the AOT and find the security enabled on this.

    "add-ins-> security tools->is empty"

You don't know menu item name, then where you right clicked and checked the security tools are empty

We won't send the roles for button every time.

Please right click on the VendReceiptsJournal menu item and find the security roles as per my previous reply.

    Accounts Payable/Common/Purchase Orders/All Purchase Orders/'Receive' tab/Journals/PRODUCT RECEIPT

Product receipt menu item is VendPackingSlipJournal

Receipts list menu item is VendReceiptsJournal

Thanks Jonathan. I'm assuming that VendReceiptsJournal is the 'Product Receipts' button. Are you able to tell me the name of the menu item for the Generate Product Receipts button? I need a role which activates the Product Receipts button but not the Generate Product Receipts.
