Contact Import Errors

Hi all,

I have run into a few errors while doing a 1,000 contact upload into my company's Dynamics 365 Sales database that I would like to get clarified here. Unfortunately, whenever I try to click on the Error Details for certain records, I receive this message:

Something has gone wrong. Check technical details for more details.

Technical Details

  • Session Id: 88bc367a-728a-481e-b36b-ea441cd23729
  • Activity Id: 6ae5319a-f228-4e00-beb5-04719c092c85
  • Timestamp: Fri May 15 2020 08:42:16 GMT-0400 (Eastern Daylight Time)
Form descriptor is null or not defined

This message is then followed by what appears to be a lot of code. ( I can copy and paste that into this post if needed). I was hoping for some guidance here so that this issue can be resolved and can get these remaining 500 contacts uploaded.

I have the same question (0)

This error could show up when the date format in excel template is different than the Date Format in the Org which was causing the issue. Have you populated data in the excel template downloaded from Dynamics? If not, just try below steps and confirm if the issue still persist.

    >> Download the excel template from Dynamics Online
    >> Populate data using the headers and naming convention in the excel
    >> Then Upload the data.

If the issue still persist, kindly share the new error details again.

If this is helpful, please mark this as verified

    Hi Rakesh,

All of the data was uploaded originally into Dynamics from the template I downloaded from the Dynamics application. Roughly 500 of those contacts (same format, same document) uploaded successfully, the others did not. Would it help if I posted the full error code not listed in the OP?

I tried editing some of the data on some perceived errors, and now I am receiving this error code when trying to upload this data:

The field '{0}' contains one or more invalid characters.

    Error code: 0x80040278

    Session Id: 832ef35d-48d5-46b5-bdf6-ca2e440e0063

    Activity Id: 3997fd45-b02f-4c87-87e0-4c1170ed1cc1

Time: Thu May 21 2020 10:23:43 GMT-0400 (Eastern Daylight Time)

This is very frustrating as I am uploading some very basic contact information. It is only business name, email, phone number, and first and last name.

    Hi Dominic,

Looking at the error, the data which didn't updated correctly might have awkward spacing in it and bullet points or special character. Please check and remove spacing, bullet pointers, special character and confirm if you are still getting this error.

One easy way to confirm that is take one affected row from the sheet, paste the data from each column one by one in notepad to remove awkward spacing and point out special character in it. Then copy-paste the updated data back in the column in sheet. Give this a try and confirm if that help

    Hi Rakesh,

Thanks for this suggestion. Could you provide a link on where I can read up on what is or is not allowed in these fields as it pertains to special characters? That way I can write a python program to clean this data instead of doing it by hand.

    Hi Dominic,

Unfortunately, we don't have list which provides details of what allowed as it pertains to special characters. Basically, as far as I know, all the special characters are not allowed. As a workaround, you can try to remove special characters from few records and try importing and confirm if it works fine.

    Thanks,

    Rakesh
