Custom Item Number series

How can I create an item number series that will let me create a custom Item Number for each item? Currently the system assigns an item number and we can change it but this just created an extra step and takes too much time.

When you set on Inventory Setup number series for Item Nos for example Item you need to have Default Nos empty and Manual Nos checked. After that go to Item card and on Item fast tab click on show more. You will see field No. There just enter manually number which you want.

unchecked the "Default Nos." on ITEM1, go back and add a new item. now the item number area just show Item Card and it's not editable. why?

    Hello,

In the Inventory Setup window, under Numbering.  Don't forget the 'Show More' option on the top right to see more options in these sections as well if you're missing something.

    Thanks,

    Chris

Jen, this is great.  How do you assign the ITEM number series to items?  My understanding is you first create a number series, and then you set up where the number series is used.  Microsoft describes how to do this for Sales and Receivables, but not for Items.

    Ezra and Ian,

Right now your Item Numbers are defaulting from No. Series setup, you can change this to not default so you can enter your own item numbers.

    Here's how to change this:

    1. Using the search type in No. Series

    2. Click on the No. Series with the gears to the left.

    3. Scroll down in the No. Series list until you see the ITEM code.

    4. There is a checkbox "Default Nos." if this is marked the Item Numbers will default, if you unmark this then the Item Number will not default.

    5. The next checkbox "Manual Nos." make sure that is marked so you can enter manually the Item Numbers.

    Hope this helps!

    Regards,

    Jennifer Reinhardt

    RE: Custom Item Number series

I actually almost posted this same question a few hours ago, I would like to know this as well.  I can't even find where to change the item number, so not sure how you did that.  I was able to workaround this issue by using the nonstock item feature, then set the nonstock setup to the item number used the entry no.

Basically I want to use mfg part numbers for my item numbers, prefixed with a letter sequence for the manufacturer of the product.  So for example if I sell/quote a Cisco 4331 Router I want the item number to be CIS-ISR4331K9.
