DefaultDimensionView does not return Dimension values that got created from UI

Hello,

I created a Dimension Attribute 'Product Category' from GL-> Chart Of accounts -> Dimensions->Financial Dimension

and I added few dimension values for it by clicking  'Dimension Value' button at the top.

When i run the view DEFAULTDIMENSIONVIEW , it doesn't return this new dimension values I added.

I found the root cause that the table DIMENSIONATTRIBUTEVALUESETITEM does not contain the dimension value I added and hence the problem.

But I don't know why this is happening in the first place. What am I missing here? There are no any customizations around it.

Can someone please help to understand this problem?

    Hi VDY.

Just note that the values will only appear in the view and tables mentioned once they have actually been selected by a document (as part of a dimension selection). E.G. On a PR, journal, PO etc.

Before this they will only be available in DimensionAttributeValue table

Correct. Here the thing is, values haven't yet selected  anywhere. They've been recently created. They are being used in the import feature which we newly developed as part of customization.

The import file has only Dimension Description in lines and we are trying to find Display value out of it and then ultimately DefaultDimension from it. But we get Display Value blank and hence we can't see it in journal lines.

Is there an easy way to find Display value from Description ?

    Hi VDY.

a few things to note. Descriptions are not guaranteed to be unique. You could have a cost center and department with the same name, or even two cost centers with the same name, so a direct link from Description to display value will not work.

You can look at the table: DimensionFinancialTag for custom dimension values (non backing entity types).

But I would recommend you work through the framework classes similar to the way DIXF works to find and create default dimension sets. Do not try and create these yourself, or try to lookups yourself.
