JE reversal question

I want to reverse entries, but when I click reverse it does not allow me to adjust the posting date. These entry reversals are from prior month accrual that need to reverse in the current period.
Is this a limitation? is it possible to change it?

    Hi,
it's by design, not something you can switch off. The native Reverse always posts back with the same posting date and document as the original entry, that's the whole idea, undo it cleanly in the same period it hit. So from that Reverse Transaction Entries page you can't push the reversal into the current month, the field stays locked to 4/30.

For accruals you want a different route. Either post a normal journal in the current period to back them out by hand, or better, set the accrual up in a Recurring General Journal with one of the reversing methods (RF, RV, RB). There you get a Reversing Date, BC posts the accrual and then auto-reverses it on the date you pick, so next month it flips on its own. That's the usual clean way for month-end accrual.

So I'd stop using Reverse for these and move them to a recurring journal.

Glad to help - follow up if anything is unclear.

You can't change the posting date through that reversal method but you can use the posted general journal to reverse it instead.

From the posted general journal page you can copy lines or a register to a journal and reverse the sign and change the posting date if you want:
Not all entries flow to the posted general journal page, that function needs to be enabled for a journal batch.

Otherwise you can just create a manual journal entry for the reversal.

    Hi,

You can’t change the posting date using Reverse, so copy the entries to a journal, reverse the sign, and post with the correct date.
    --> Don’t use “Reverse” button
--> Use Posted General Journal instead
    or
--> Create a manual journal for reversal

    Hello,
Yes, this is a standard limitation/design in Business Central: Reverse Transaction creates the opposite entries using the same posting date and document number as the original entry, so you cannot change the reversal date from that screen. For prior-month accruals that must reverse in the current month, the better approach is to post a new reversing journal in the current period, or use Posted General Journals > Copy Selected Lines / Copy G/L Register to Journal with opposite signs and a new posting date. For future accruals, use Recurring General Journals with a reversing recurring method and reversal date calculation.

Yes, it is a standard limitation: Reverse Transaction must use the original posting date and document number.
For a prior-period accrual that needs to reverse in the current period, use Copy G/L Register to Journal or Copy Selected Lines to Journal, select Opposite Signs, then enter the required current-period posting date before posting.
