Dynamics AX 2009 - Project Module

Hi,

 I have been looking in the community for information related to the Project Module in AX 2009 and did not find many postings.  If someone has implemented projects can you please share your experience, both good and bad.  We have not implemented Projects and would like to know what we should look out for.

    Hi, my organization is implementing the AX 2009 Projects module along with PSA Vertical in the Professional Services industry. There are some nice changes in AX 2009 Projects Module as well as integration points with Projects Server. Which Industry will you be implementing the Projects Modiule?  One major thing we saw that for my country, the Project Module was not localized and that was an overhead for us. Also for our implementation we have challenges with pricing features , Project contracts, SOW's, legal requirements which lands up as customization elements :(

    Let me know if there are any specific queries u have.

    Thanks for the reply.  Some of the issues that I foresee are:  1. Project is associated to one company and sharing out projects from what I understand can be quite complicated.  Therefore, to have the project available without sharing it would require a mod to sync it across the companies.  2. Sequencing of project numbers are not very flexible.  If we wanted to add a phase (i.e sub-project) in between an existing project structure that was created it is not something that is easy to do.  The sequencing of sub-projects do not allow for modification when adding them.  Therefore, we are left doing a global update of the project key.  3. Validation of the Categories does not seem to be perfect in that we are seeing duplicate categories that we have validation setup for. 4. No secondary currency in projects.5. Not easy to secure projects.  I want to only allow employee A,B,C,D to charge to a project?I do foresee that we will have a bunch of customizations on our hands too. Let me know if you ran into any of these issues or if you have others that you want to share. Thanks

    regarding the Validation of Categories, I too am seeing duplicate categories that have validation set up for. Did you end up finding out how to solve this problem?

    We are setting up the Project Module in Process Engineering industry.

    Main challenges (where standard is not enough):

    1. Budget update - ease of budget update for a project manager on large projects with a great overview is still not sufficient for us (though the new cost control is a great step)
    2. Linking Projects with Logistics for the PM to have his overview
    3. The new direct production integration is made in a way that we cannot use (no finished item is created for the project!)
    4. Challenges getting the MS Project Server integration to work in practise

    Anyone knows if the Professional Service module gives any enhancements to the MS Project Server integration?

    I have been helping both with PSA business and Project based Production (Eng2Order)

    There is help with revisions and approval on point 1 in PSA.  But little on your other points.  

    The AX application could do with helping (rethinking) on “Project based  Productions”.

    Especially to help businesses to be flexible to consider Production Cost (In Progress) part of Project WIP  not Production WIP.  

    It would be great to have  “analysing tool” to help resolve issues around the Project Server Integration.

    Hello,

    Does anyone have and idea about the integration point of Project with the HR module. There are recruitment projects in HR module that does not have cost accounting and other things related to a project. Is there a work around by which i can connect both of them.
