Dear All

I get this error "Communication error , The server is unavailable ,check your configuration and network connection and try again" when I am trying to use Microsoft dynamics AX outside my local network via VPN.

Gould you please help me to solve this problem?

Best Regards,

    Hello IamisNaji,

    Correct me if worng,

You have installed the AOS in your local network and installed the AX Client on your Laptop when the Laptop was in your local network.

Now the issue is when you try to connect via VPN (Out side your local network) you see the "Communication error , The server is unavailable ,check your configuration and network connection and try again" ?

I'm assuming that you are using the correct AOS address and ports, so the below will focus on what else could be wrong:

Different VPN setups configure DNS differently.  To be sure you can connect to the AOS, specify the fully qualified hostname, including domain name (e.g. AXSERVER.DOMAIN.LOCAL) rather than just the host name.

If that gives you the same error, try specifying the IP address of the AOS server instead.

Now, if that fails as well, you're looking at a routing or firewall issue.  It could be there's no IP routing set up between the VPN IP subnet and the IP subnet the AOS is on, or a firewall could be blocking communications on the ports required for the AX client to talk to the AOS.  Check the client configuration utility to see which ports are being used, and verify with the network administrator(s) if communication on those ports are routed from the VPN to the AOS.

Generally though, I would recommend running AX through remote desktop if you are working on VPNs, as the additional latency introduced by the VPN and WAN links tend to make the AX client much slower than when running on the local network.
