SL-1099 Electronic filing for Yearend 2020

Will there be an update to the SL 1099 electronic filing with the year end update? Everything I have read says there will be something for the forms but not the actual file format. Also, I know there won't be an update for SL2015 but could we complete the 1099s outside of SL then send the file to the IRS using the electronic filing screen? We have a few clients that have asked this question. Please let us know if this function will be affected as well.

Hello Linda,

Microsoft updates will only be for SL 2018 (CU1, CU2, CU3, CU4). CU5 will have the YE reporting changes included.

Plumbline Consulting is releasing YE updates for SL 2011 FP1, SP2 and SP3, and SL 2015, 2015 CU1 and CU2. The PCL updates for prior versions will have to be purchased. Not sure of the cost.

The SL 2018 updates are obviously free for users that have support plans.

Yes. There will be electronic files for both forms, 1099-MISC and 1099-NEC.

Could we complete the 1099s outside of SL then send the file to the IRS using the electronic filing screen?

I’m not sure what that means, ‘completing the 1099 outside of SL’. If they mean plugging the vendor information and 1099 amounts into a third party application that then either prints the 1099 or generates an electronic file, then sure they could do that.
