Loosing connection to database server.

Sometimes when we try to print an invoice we get that message "Can not find [database server] ... " If we restart NAV it usually works again, but sometimes a full restart of the WS is needed.
(Lately we have seen that if we disable and enable the network connection it is possible to reconnect to the server.)

It happens 0-3 times to something like every 50 invoices.

It seems to be only on two of our WS:s but not sure because those two are the ones that make the most documents (invoices).

We have tried things like, new cabels, new switch, "not put network card to sleep" and some other small things.

Our Microsoft NAV partner had no answer to this, so maybe you guys here have some ideas :)

Running Windows 7 64 bit on all WS and Windows Server 2008 R2 on servers.

Please ask if you need more information.

    Hi ,

This problem occurred mainly when the connectivity between the client and server lost. In NAV client, it ping to Application server  frequently to be connected so in case it does not found the connectivity then application get crashed with your subjected error.

Just ping the server on and check. as you said it occurs while printing the invoice. you can make ping on and can check whether there is any issue of connectivity lost with the server or not.

If you are using the classic client then ping with SQL server and in case of RTC, check connection with application server.

    Regards,

    Saurabh Shah

What version of NAV are you running?   Installing a newer NAV exe might solve it. You can try and also update the printer drivers on those pcs.

    Hello,

Besides what the other experts have suggested, can you also say where is your server? Is it on-premise? Is it on Azure?

    We are running version 6.0.33842.0.

I have tried different drivers for the printer, and even using the backup printer instead, but the same problem anyway.

The servers are in our own LAN. They are running on one VMvare server.

Check your Event Viewer for any additional log. Did you try to send a "ping -t"?

Let me know if you find more info @ EV log, please.

is it a classic report run through rtc client?

Does connectivity get lost during other activities?

If you've changed the cable, and the switch (or port), then you might try getting new network cards for those two machines.

Another idea is to install a printer locally at the machine that prints the most invoices.

When your connection goes down, just check the event for both client & serevr at the same time.
