Base Unit of Measure

A friend of mine recently started at an organization that just went live with NAV 2017.

His team has a big concern on the way the consultant’s setup the base Unit of Measure.

His company sells quarts of milk. 10 quarts = 1 Case and there are 946 milliliters in a quart.

They also sell boxes of pancake mix which are 16 oz. or 453 grams. 10 boxes = 1 case.

These are just two of many other products that are sold.

The NAV consultants recommended and set up all the items in lowest unit of measure (gram/lbs/ oz) even though the company would never buy / sell or want it displayed in this unit. The requirement was to see all of their items in cases during receipt, pick, put away, ship, and invoice – all pages. This is a high-volume distribution business.

After go-live, there was so much confusion in the items being displayed as 400,000 grams or 1.2 M oz., that they hired a developer to modify many of the screens and reports to display the purchase or sales unit of measure.

Here are my questions:

1. How would you have setup the base UoM?

2. Is there a way to change the base UoM back to boxes and cases and how extensive would this process be ?

Please let me know if you have any questions and thank you in advance for your help.

    Regarding point 2:

You can not change the Base UOM if Item has open Ledger entry.

    You can do this:

    - Post a Negative Adjustment to have 0 Inventory

    - Change the UoM

    - Post a Positive Adjustement with the new UoM

Be careful to post the correct costs when doing step 3 (a Purchase movement could be better)

    RE: Base Unit of Measure

Base UoM should be the standard measure for your items, the measure where you want the item in your inventory.

Then you can set unit of measures for selling and purchasing and unit of measure conversions (Item Unit of Measure)
