Compatibility level equal 100 in SQL Server 2014

Hi, I am astonished after been applied the last Service Pack for our Always On all the user databases has 100 instead of 120.

I Imagine this level was established before, time ago so that it is not related to the uploaded sql patches this weekend.

Question here is the following, from the ERP side, is there any solid reason for having this compatibility level in live?

At pure SQL Server side only for backwards compatibility and for some concrete queries does make any sense for me.

We run Navision 2009 R3.

Thank you for share your comments, hints and ideas

The compatibility level is only available for 3 previous (including the one that you are on) versions from the current version of SQL Server that you are working with.

Compatibility Levels Version       Current Compatibility Level     Oldest Available Level

    SQL 2016                                                        130                                      110

    SQL 2014                                                        120                                      100

    SQL 2012                                                        110                                        90

    SQL 2008                                                        100                                        80

    SQL 2005                                                          90                                        70

    SQL 2000                                                          80                                        70

You will not get any official statement as 2009 is no more supported.

AFAIK, compatibility level for SQL database is available only for three previous version, including the one that you are currently using. That is, 100 (SQL 2008) is the oldest compatibility level available for you now.

As for your question, I do not see major risk if you raise from 100 to 120 for NAV 2009 if you already operate with SQL 2014, allowing 120 level. From the other hand, I would not see a major increase in performance if you will raise it to 120 either.

Try ALTER the backup to 120 to see what happens, most likely nothing will.
