I need help defining how to create a business alert for a JE that is posted to a prior GL period.
A formula similar to this is what I had in mind:
GL20000_T1.PERIODID <> (Current) GL20000_T1.PERIODID
or
GL20000_T1.PERIODID <> (GL20000_T1.PERIODID,-1)
or
GL20000_T1.PERIODID < GL20000_T1.PERIODID
If anyone has a similar solution please advise.

We have deployed a forecasting solution to the cloud that reloads the current GL month on a reoccurring basis, but there was no stop-gap put into place (beyond business owner communication) to reload a prior period when a JE is posted to a prior period. The Solution Architect had envisioned using workflows to send a notification to the business owners for when a JE is posted to a pervious period, but workflows does not contain date fields, so that is not a viable solution either.
I have suggested either a SQL notification or utilizing business alerts. The preferred method is to delver this notification within the Dynamics GP application.

I have some questions about your request.
Isaac is right, the Business Alert is going to basically give you everything since there would be nothing to filter the biz alert to show current date vs. posted date.
Do you need the alert because there is a business process going wrong? Something getting posted to a previous period after month-end has been wrapped up?
Are you closing the fiscal periods once month-end is completed or are they staying open because of other business needs?

This is not a request that I have an example for. The difficulty with this is that if you want to send a business alert when someone posts transactions to a prior period, the report would just contain all transactions from the prior period, it wouldn't just print out newly posted transactions because we don't have a control to put our condition against because its doesn't have a way to check what the number of transactions used to be in that period compared to what it is now. To me you would need more of a Trigger or some customization on top of this to make it work.
If what you want is just a list of all Journal Entries from the Prior Period, and you set it to email out on the first of every month, then that should be possible.
I know over the year's people have used Business Alerts in very creative ways so maybe someone in the community would have an idea for you as well.
