Hello,
Does Dynamics 365 Layout currently support use on Microsoft Surface Tablets?
i.e. and if not, can you disclose if there are plans to support it in a future release?
Donielle,
Sorry... my bad. I added "Factory" to the term Layout... i.e. since I am most familiar the image on the layout page where they show a "Factory Floor" menu item:
dynamics.microsoft.com/.../layout
AND, "Support of running this application on a tablet PC is not currently a supported feature" correctly answers the question to my original post... i.e. and is what I assumed from the start.
Thank you for adding the suggestion to the ideas page.
Hello Kerwin,
I think in this case I may not understand what you mean by " Factory Layout" .
Our Dynamics 365 Layout application allows you to create a floor plan in design software( Visio), export it to 3D and then view the design in context in your space, using a HoloLens or Windows Mixed Reality Headset. Support of running this application on a tablet PC is not currently a supported feature. I added to the Ideas page that we should support the ability to run the Layout application that currently uses a HMD on a tablet PC or Mobile type device.
If the description above does not clarify what the Dynamics 365 Layout application is, please let me know and I can point you in the right direction.
Donielle
Donielle,
Thank you. However, my question is not whether a surface tablet can access and run Dynamics 365 software... it was if the
"Factory Layout" Augmented Reality mode of Dynamics 365 could be run on a surface tablet PC... i.e. similar to the Factory Layout
AR app for HoloLens, but running in a surface tablet.
AND, when I look at the link for Layout Application hardware requirements [https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/dynamics365/mixed-reality/layout/requirements]... they
do not mention anything about Factory Layout support for a tablet PC... i.e. only HoloLens or Mixed Reality Headsets. i.e. So, the question still remains... can the
Augmented Reality feature of Factory Layout be run in a surface tablet PC versus HoloLens or MR headsets?
-Kerwin
P.S. If we can update the post title... it should read as follows:
"Dynamics 365 Factory Layout 'Augmented Reality' support for Microsoft Surface Tablets?"
KerwinK,
No worries, it seems that there were some issues with the page caching and that is now fixed. Please feel free to include any additional details pertaining to your ask in the comments.

Donielle,
Thank you for submitting. When I attempted to do it, the dropdown for 'categories' did not
provide any selections... i.e. and thus, it would not let me submit. Note: I tried submitting in both
Edge and Chrome browsers, over the course of two days... and the result was the same.

Hi KerwinK,
I didn't see an idea created for this feature request, so I have gone ahead and added this in for you here https://experience.dynamics.com/ideas/idea/?ideaid=432a080b-2018-e911-9461-0003ff68ee33
Donielle
Okay, I assumed that was the case since not mentioned in specs or demoed in any vids. I believe it would be very beneficial functionality... i.e. since most manufacturers will not be able to justify the cost of a HoloLens for the specific task of doing factory layouts. Also, since Windows 10 already has AR built in with the bundled 3D Viewer app (formerly Mixed Reality Viewer)… i.e. which works nicely with a tablet, or even laptop webcams... it would seem a natural progression to also be able to do with Dynamics 365 Layout. I will submit the feedback. Thank you.
Hello KerwinK,
That current functionality is not a feature of the application though it is a wonderful Idea, that I would like to add and track. Please submit your feedback for the desired feature on our ideas page via the following link https://experience.dynamics.com/ideas/list/?forum=86453d40-52bc-e811-a975-000d3a1bec70
Warm Regards,
Donielle
Donielle,
Thank you for your quick reply! So just to clarify... if a Microsoft Surface Tablet has the performance that will run Mixed Reality Apps... then it can run Dynamics 365 'LAYOUT'... which will then put the tablet into a 'AUGMENTED REALITY' mode for displaying Factory Layouts? i.e. similar to when viewing with a Microsoft HoloLens.
Note: I understand that a HoloLens HMD has the benefit of stereoscopic display, hand gestures, etc. I am just trying to understand if the AR functionality of Dynamics 365 Layout will also work within a surface tablet.
-Kerwin
Hello KerwinK
If you have a Mixed Reality ready surface PC, you can run the Dynamics 365 software. The following link docs.microsoft.com/.../windows-mixed-reality-pc-check-app, is the best way to make sure your PC is ready to run Windows Mixed Reality. A full description of hardware guidelines for Windows Mixed Reality can be found at docs.microsoft.com/.../windows-mixed-reality-minimum-pc-hardware-compatibility-guidelines In addition to the above links, a full description of hardware requirements or using the Layout application can be located docs.microsoft.com/.../requirements.
Please let us know if you have additional questions.
