Admin access to NAV 2013R2 or higher instead of customer - with no licence

Hi I might have a stupid question, but I`m wondering about statements of our developers, that we have no way how to acces NAV if all the licence of customer are already occupied, except asking customer to log off. In situation, that customer need some 1st level support and we want to see right into NAV (I`m aware of Powershell for SQL access), but need to get into NAV and see what customer might see.

In other server applications or even in CRM there are basically 2 access licence for an administrator. Doe`s the NAV 2013 R2 or higher have something similar?

I`m not a developer, just account manager, but this behavior seems strange to me, and I don`t want to believe it.

Thanks for either confirmation or suggestion how to log into NAV with all user licenses occupied.

You need to have a license  to get into Navision.  The only way you can access navisionis  by having user and the every user login counts as a session whether it is for development/consultant or actual user.

I believe your scenario only occurs if you are trying to access a production database and plan to fix something on it, (which is strongly recommended not to do changes on production), if you just plan to look what the error is or what the customer is doing then there are so many screen sharing tools which gives the ability to do.

Unfortunately Navision does not have the options as other applications have.

The licence terms says that external users cannot use client to acces NAV, so I`m afraid this wont work. We tried it but with no succes. Or if you have a working solution, please share with me how is it done? Thanks

    Hi,

You should be able to create 2 extra users, but when creating the user you have to choose External User instead of Full User in 'Licence type'.

    Best regards

Thanks Jonathan for explanation, I`m aware what cuncurrent users licence means, but I just refuse to believe that MS do not allow some administrator privilegies ... Because if thats right, than for a customer it means either stop working, or buy one extra full user to allow their partner to provide support :-(

in nav the concurrent user license is used, means, that at a certain time a fix number of users can connect to nav simultaniously ... and not more. if another user wants a connection to nav service and therefore to the database behind its at this time not possible. so the additional user who wants a connection goes when connecting into a wait state, until a connection is freed.
