How is the event registration id generated?

Posted on by Microsoft Employee

Hey,

Sometimes we have events that happen outside dynamics 365, but we would like to follow those up within the marketing application. For an offline event we for example received an excel list with attendees. We imported these people as contact/lead and want to attach the event to them for lead scoring and follow-up purposes.

Unfortunately, there is no easy way for users to do bulk event registrations. You can do multiple event check ins/easily add people to a segment list, but for an event registration, you have to add each contact seperately and select their role. This is very time consuming for events with several hundred people.

This made me think that it would be really easy to do this with a dedicated powerapp/power automate flow, but the problem is that CDS does not seem to generate the registrationID. So we we're wondering if anybody knows how this ID is generated/built and how cds checks the validity, because we now are unable to generate event registrations from power automate.

(Perhaps this goes too much into the power platform, but I think not many people on the power platform forums have experience with Dynamics Marketing)

or event better: make it easier to do bulk event registrations ;)

RE: How is the event registration id generated?

When  I register contacts for an event via teh interface, a Registration ID is not generated. What is the name of the plugin that should be doing this?  Any other suggestions to explore why the id is not being generated?

    Hey Niels,

Clofly's answer has the correct solution to the PowerAutomate problem. For the bulk importing of registrations - we have this on our backlog and will make it easier in the future. You can also use the OOB import from excel functionality if you have already added the contacts

    1. Create a new view (recommended, so that you can have the fields that you have available in the excel sheet as columns on the view)
    2. Use the export to excel to get a sample export of a few records, I usually use that to quickly get the excel template which I can use to import
    3. In the file that you got from exporting, scroll all the way to the left, delete the data in the columns except the headers, and paste in the right information from your excel sheet. I would ensure that there are fields that identify the contact (I have email ID) and the event (the event ID would work - you can get this from the URL of the event in Dynamics)
    4. Once you have done the import, the event records should be created.

    Hi Niels,

Registration ID is automatically generated by plugin of marketing solution.

We could set the property to null to skip validation in CDS, once the record is created, Registration ID field will be populated automatically.
