A financial dimension value is based on the record and has been used on a transaction

Is there a fix for this error which seems to happen in various places in D365FO? I've just hit it when I tried to delete a project and after a couple of searches Google offered me that phrase as a search. It shows a few blogs and community postings related to Accounts, Customers, and Bank accounts, and the same solution is offered each time - delete a record from the DimensionAttributeLevelValue table with the table browser or SQL.

But we won't be able to do that in PROD - so is there a fix?

Thanks

Tim

    Hi Tim,

In the July 2017 version, there is support added. Have a look at the whats new section:

Thanks André. I took a look at the "What's new" and although there was a section Financial dimensions, it seemed that it just relates to the maintenance of Financial dimension values and not this error which I think relates more to the usage of a financial dimension value on a record, and trying to delete that record. (Or did I miss something). By the way, hope you have a great week at the MVP Summit next week.

    Hi Tim,

I saw this issue several times and as far as I understand AX never deletes records from Dimension* tables. So if project Id is a financial dimension and you selected this project as a dimension value somewhere once you won't be able to delete it ever.

As per blog posts you saw you have to go and delete record manually. In new D365 reality you have 2 options for any data issue you cannot fix through UI or Data entity (not only this one) : go to MS via request and ask them to help you or write a job to fix data, deploy it to prod and run it there.

Hopefully it was fixed in July update.

We just loaded fixed assets into UAT environment and now want to delete them all. FAs are not financial dimensions but D365 does not let us delete the records. The error is "The FixedAsset '090703' is used in one or more transactions of the following types: Ledger and cannot be deleted. " No transactions posted yet.

As I said before, as soon as you use it, AX creates a record in that table and you have to delete it, in UAT it can be done via SQL, just ask your developer to help.

    Hi Tim Schofield,

This is a common issue which you will face if try to delete records in ERP. Even though if you have run the sysdatabasetransdelete class and delete all posted transactions, still in some cases you will not be able to delete few records,

I faced it for fixed assets, main accounts and even for customer and vendor master data deletion. The same what ievgen Miroshnikov mentioned; the technical team had created a job and run it. After that, these records got deleted.

    Best regards,

Thank you for your replies. Is it only the DimensionAttributeLevelValue table or another table as well? Do you mind to share the job that you've mentioned?

We deleted the record in DimensionAttributeLevelValue, deleted all loaded FAs. Then loaded fixed assets (FAs) again.

We have a new issue today and I believe it is related to the one discussed yesterday: now running an Acquisition proposal throws the following record: "Only active dimensions can be used. Use the Financial dimensions setup to active your dimensions."

No change to financial dimensions, no new activation. Just loading FAs and their books... Any ideas what happened?

    Hi TanyaI,

Are you loading FA data along with financial dimension also?

Can you please check in Financial dimension configuration for integrating applications form in GL module where 'Default dimension format' and 'Ledger dimension format' is set to active or not?

Yes, Sourav, we load FAs books with financial dimensions.

Yes, we have two records under Financial dimension configuration for integrating applications: one for 'Default dimension format' and another one for 'Ledger dimension format', both Active for type...

    Hi TanyaI,

I think all you need to do is, to arrange your data properly in the excel template and then upload in ERP. In excel, you need to arrange dimension combination with main account in the manner as it should be like what you set in the configure account structure form.

You can check below link which was discussed in detail few days back in this community which could be helpful.

    https://community.dynamics.com/365/financeandoperations/f/dynamics-365-for-finance-and-operations-forum/358504/fixed-asset-journal---open-lines-in-excel-function---financial-dimensions

However; the subject line of this thread is different as created by Tim Schofield. Let us see if discussions whatever happened related to that here, is already served his purpose or not.

Meanwhile, you can update if above link solve your issue.

    Best regards,
    Sourav Dam
