I have a client that uses HCL (formerly IBM, Lotus) notes for email.
Notes is MAPI compliant.
The question is does GP use Simple or Extended MAPI.
Thanks!
Thank you Derek,
The only technical reference I found about the topic is from Lucas Miller in an old Word document about fix MAPI issues..
[...]
To determine if MAPI is enabled, the Dynamics runtime uses a Windows API function call named GetPrivateProfileInt. The return value of the function is the value read and converted to 32 bit integer. If this value = 1 then we enable MAPI functionality in GP, if not then it is disabled.
It is this GetPrivateProfileInt that is the dealbreaker apparently and I have no way to find out what is returned as a value, since i don't have any VisualStudio setup to write a quick app (and probably wouldn't know how) to get this to run on any regular windows system.
So far I was able to check off every single piece of validation about the Registry and Win.INI file, but none did help. I'll keep trying and will post back if I'm able to get this working.
The Registry and Win.ini file is about all I've ever really had to do with email / MAPI not working in Dynamics GP, but that is more related to Outlook than other email applications.
I want to say we've seen more success using Exchange, with other mail applications, but with GP 2010 you're limited.
That being said, I've never really helped setup or configure Thunderbird or any other email application so don't have anything more to really offer.
The only mention I've had of Thunderbird in a support case was back on 2016 and the issue was it strips out the Workflow approval links, similar to Gmail and Apple mail.
Sorry can't be more help........
Hi Derek Albaugh
I know this is an old thread, but I'm trying to setup a non-Outlook configuration for GP by using Mozilla Thunderbird.. There is no Office setup on the GP server and never was. The MAIL client settings in the registry are defaulting to the Mozilla Thunderbird app, but Dynamics GP (2010) does not seem to recognize the Thunderbird app (as a valid MAPI client).
I've checked everywhere and still can't find any references as to which MAPI client GP is compatible with.
I went thru various KB's but with no luck:

It puzzles me that GP is so picky about using a mail client and seems to insist of using Outlook only...
Thanks Derek!
From what I could find, Dynamics GP uses the Simple MAPI protocol to send an email to Outlook.
I'd also lean towards Simple MAPI as it can be configured to work with Google Mail as well as other internal MAPI servers.
Thanks
