Hi All
I’m trying to edit an SSRS FetchXML report in Visual Studio 2015, connecting to Dynamics 365 Online v9.1.
I can preview the report fine in VS so the data source connection works, but when I go to Query Designer for the report dataset I get ‘Unable to connect to data source’.
Setup:
I’ve tried using TLS1.2 and the SchUseStrongCrypto regedit, both mentioned elsewhere on this forum, but still get the error. I’ve also tried uninstalling VS2015, SSDT & Report Authoring and then reinstalling, same issue.
Does anyone have any suggestions?
Many thanks
Steve

If it is something you could try, i would uninstall the Dynamics 365 Developer Toolkit, and try and see if it resolves the issue. Its a not a permanent solution but i did have some issue with Report Authethering extension and developer toolkit.
Thanks. I get the error when I try to open the query for the dataset with Query Designer. It is a FetchXML query but I'm not trying to generate any FetchXML. Screenshot attached...
To my knowledge the Query Designer isn't going to be able to generate or modify the FetchXML for you for your data sets. Closest you are going to be able to get for generating fetch would be to create an advanced find that is giving you the sort of guidelines you are using and then download that FetchXML string.
If you are getting the error when you select the data set and go to properties please update with a screenshot of the error.
Thanks, I have tried restarting VS and the machine, and running in admin mode but the problem persists.
The fact that Preview works for confirms your connection is working. The query designer may not be connecting to CRM using the same way as the preview screen.
I would first restart VS or restart the machine itself and run VS in admin mode and see if it connects.
