Meaning of custom workflow and one example

Hi everyone ,

Just wanted to know what custom workflow is and an example which really explains it's need in simple words.

Any suggestion will be more than welcomed

    Hello,

    I believe you meant Custom Workflow Activity (CWA). So out-of-box you have limited number of actions in workflow designer like create/update/assign/changestate/sendemail operations. If you need something that doesn't fit mentioned actions you can develop and register in CRM own CWAs. For example - get Opportunity Close entity based on Opportunity.     I understood the concept of custom workflow activity , but could you please explain the example you mentioned of " get Opportunity Close entity based on Opportunity ".

    Hello,

    This particular example provides possibility to access Opportunity Close record that is created after opportunity is closed as Won/Lost. Let's assume that you have a workflow that handles Win/Lost event of Opportunity and you need somehow to get info entered in Won/Lost dialog from workflow. Out of box you have no possibility to access Opportunity Close record that is created for Opportunity and custom workflow activity provides that possibility.
