Blanket Sales Order - Staggering Demand for Requisition Planning

Posted on by 24
Hello All,

When we enter a blanket sales order, we usually agree on shipment quantites that can be called off by the customer short hand.  ex. they order 1000 pcs over 12 month period and agree to buy 200 pcs each shipment.  This means we would plan to always have 200 available, but not necessarily more.

When running the planning worksheets on such an item it will always consider the entire 1000 pcs (or the remaining qty) as demand at the beginning of the planning period. ie. I need to have those 1000 pieces today.

Is there a way to stagger this demand, so that it only suggests having the 200 on stock?

Thanks,
Darrell

Yes I like the way SAP B1 treats a blanket order as master data with its own data structure and logic rather than another type of sale or purchase document. As such they have a concept of amount agreed and then another table which is the planner schedule or call offs which is reflected in demand. That would be the preferred way. Maybe we can lodge an idea. Thinking about it the whole system needs that concept to handle backorders and split shipments without having to constantly split sales and purchase lines to accurately reflect dates.

You would need to break your Blanket Sales Order LINE into multiple lines.  Instead of a single line for 1000, you would have five lines of 200 each.  Each line can then have its own date, which is why the planning is grouping the full 1000 on a single date.  By breaking the line up, you give yourself the ability to spread the demand across multiple dates, thus allowing the planning to make/order based on that timeline.

This could also be accomplished on a Sales Order instead of a Blanket, but the benefit of the Blanket is that you don't see it commingled with the rest of your Sales Orders, and you can release a Sales Order off of the blanket when it is time to do so.
