auto generate journal id question in DIXF

We're importing inventory transfers using DIXF.  We want to auto generate the journal id but it is creating a separate transfer journal for each import line.  For example, we have a transfer with 5 line items.  When we use the auto generate on the journal id field, the system creates 5 transfer journals with one line each instead of creating one transfer journal with 5 lines.  Is there a workaround for this other than manually assigning the journal id in the import file.  Thanks.

    Hi nmirhan,

I don't see any issues using two different journal number series in your scenario.

    Hello Andre,

We're going to have two different transfer journal ids in the system.  Users who are manually entering inventory transfers will be assigned the system generated journal id of INVJ###### and the transfer journals that were imported will have journal id of IMPJ######.  When we looked at the transaction history of the item, some transfer records will have INVJ###### journal numbers and some will have IMPJ###### journal numbers.  I tested and it looked like it works.  Just want to make sure that I am not missing something and encounter problems down the line.  Thanks.

    Hi,

For sure, you can use another number series. Note that you probably have to take care of continuous numbers when required in your country.

    Hello nmirhan,

Can you share details / screenshots how you currently configured the import of the inventory transfers that you mentioned?

    Many thanks,

    Ludwig

    Hi Andre

Thanks for the response.  I figured there's no workaround but just wanted to check.  My next question is can I assign different values than what is defined in the sequence.  For example, the defined sequence is INVJ###### and I use IMPJ###### for the imported transfer journals.  I tested it, import the transfer journal and post it and it works with no issue.  But just want to check if it is ok to do this and there won't be any problem down the line.  Thanks again.

    Hi nmirhan,

If there is a composite entity, you can try to use this one. Usually, I do create one journal first and then provide the journal number manually in the source file or as default value. The auto numbering is not working correctly for the lines separately.
