SSRS Report in Business Analyzer Not Loading

Hello All,

We are running GP 2016 (16.00.0641 R2) on SQL Server 2016 (SP1-CU15-GDR)(KB450522).  We have several custom SSRS reports that work great from the SSRS Manager/Viewer (ie webpage viewer).  I have added those reports to the Charts & KPIs folder within the company data directory.  Within GP, I have added these reports to the "Selected Reports" pane within the Business Analyzer Details window.  After logging out and back into GP, these reports are available to cycle through within the business analyzer however they load with a 0 byte count, and a rendered date of 1/1/0001.  I don't know if this is a permissions issue or what but I could use some troubleshooting guidance.  Is there a guide anywhere that details size/component restrictions with respect to displaying these reports in the Business Analyzer?

Thanks,

Chris

We don't do much troubleshooting on custom SSRS reports, as that starts getting more on the SQL Reporting Services side than Dynamics GP, even though the report may be pulling GP data.

Have you verified the report works fine when you access it directly from the Report Manager web page for SSRS?

If it does, if you go to the area page in Dynamics GP, such as Financial or whatever series it is under, and click on Reporting Services Reports, select this report and attempt to view it, does it render correctly there?

This would help determine whether the issue is with the Business Analyzer window/section of the GP Home page or not.

For permissions, SSRS reports as far as data, are given via the RPT_ database roles. You could try assigning a WIndows account the RPT_PowerUser role under the system and/or company databases for GP and test, this would help rule out permissions or not for that report.

    Thanks

Thank you for your response Derek.  I have verified that the reports do render correctly when launched from the Reporting Services Reports section.  The issue definitely seems to be with Business Analyzer.  Do you know if there is a limitation on data size for BA?  I took one of the reports and stripped out everything but the pie chart and that does load now in Business Analyzer.  The chart alone is less than useful however so I am trying to figure this thing out.  Again, much appreciation for your insight.

I know that there were some issues with BA in Dynamics GP 2016 R2 that were fixed in later versions.

Even with default SSRS reports, I know I had a case with a similar issue and in my testing, with BA in GP 2016, I added 3 reports to be shown in BA, but it would only show 2 of the 3 reports at all.

To further test, I added a total of 10 reports to BA in GP 2016, again, even after refreshing, only 2 of the reports shown.

However, in GP 18.3, I added 8 SSRS reports to show in BA in testing, and I can view and look at all 8 in the BA section of the Home page.

Based on this, it does appear there is an issue with BA section of the GP Home page in Dynamics GP 2016 R2 that was fixed in later versions.

My recommendation would be to access these custom SSRS reports via the 'Reporting Services Reports' links on the area pages in GP 2016 R2, until the client upgrades to Dynamics GP 18.3 or so.

    Thanks,

Thank you again Derek.  This seems like the likely cause.  I believe we have an update/upgrade scheduled soon so hopefully that takes care of it.  When/If we get there I will post back with the result but I have marked your answer as correct for now.  Merry Christmas!
