Question on Old Capacity Model vs New Capacity Model

Posted on by 2,075

Hi all,

Just another question on the new capacity model. It seems we are on a hybrid version of the model and would like to switch over to the new capacity model. The question is in the old capacity model, for separate production or sandbox instances of Dynamics we had to purchase an environment license to provision for example an additional production environment/instance of Dynamics in our organization.

With moving to the new capacity model. It seems the provisioning of new instances of CRM is completely dependent on your dataverse storage capacity, which is made up of the Dynamics 365 licenses you have (I believe we get 250mb of database storage per license and 2gigs of file storage per license).

Do we still need to keep a Dynamics 365 additional instance license if that's the case? So we have two production instances. The first instance came included and the second one we purchased additionally. Do we still need to pay for that second instance or can we just switch to the new capacity model and instances should all be provisioned based on the amount of capacity storage you have available.

Kind regards

    hello to all,

David can you clarify this regarding the accrued database: Attach licenses have the same capacity entitlements of the base license.

Does this mean that for a user with D365 Sales ent base + customer service attach the user adds 500Mb to the tenant capacity? Do I get it right?

    thank you,

    Nikos Psomadellis

    Hi Mike,

After changing to the new license model, you don't need to keep the additional instance license for your tenant.

Meanwhile, I believe in new capacity model, you may not be able to purchase additional license by instance.

For more information, you may contact you local sales for more information.
