After database refresh some data is missing in the target environment.

Hi guys,

hope all is well.

Today as usual i did a database refresh from Prod to UAT.

After the refresh i noticed that some information from HCMEmployeeV2entity is missing in the target environment.

Fields like - PRIMARYCONTACTEMAIL are blank or with "null" value.

Naturally i immediately checked the source environment, but everything looks fine there.

The refresh finished without errors and i am not able to find anything relevant in the logs.

Anyone experienced something similar before ?

It is not the only field that i spotted, we are missing the employee private emails as well.

I double checked the official "DB refresh process" by MS, but i don't see anything new or related to this.

Hi,

I have faced the same issue while Refresh the Dev data with Prod data in AX 2012.

In AX 2012, It occurs due to the TableIds and ColumnIds differences in both the Instances.

It shows the data after restoring the backup, but after Db sync it becomes blank.

For solution, we have Create the new DB in Dev instance and restore the Prod data in our new Test DB.

And after DB sync the Main DB, we copied the specific missing columns data from Test DB to Main DB.

Thanks for your response.

So first the data is missing in HCMemployeeV2 entity.

Second this data was there in all previous database refreshes.

I know this part of the documentation, but it does not add-up to the previous outcomes of the database refreshes.

We are fine if this is not there, but on the other hand if it is not intended behavior i have to ask myself what else is missing...

Anyway i raised a case with MS and will update you guys if there is anything out of it.

Hi,

Waed is correct, email addresses are removed intentionally.

I suspect the data entity you have checked will reference the underlying data from one of the documented tables and.or fields.

If you needed the data back, you could use DMF to export the entity from Production and import into your test environment, but beware that there are valid reasons for obfuscating email addresses, you need to take care not to send test emails to real employees. Some kind of obfuscation or anonymising is definitely sensible.

@Raj, you should raise your comment as a question in the Dynamics AX forum in it's own thread, that's a common old problem and I' sure someone can help.

Nice to see you again!

I can agree with your statement, but only if this was a consistent outcome :)

Something must have happened because I've created randomization scripts for the emails exactly because this information was there.

So we are not only randomizing this part of the table, but also many other fields like gender, age and so on...

I am still waiting for Microsoft to give us more information.

Let's see.
