I have been trying now for a while to setup things so that I can use data from Dynamics AX queries in Power BI. I understand the procedure is to use an OData feed and enter the path to the AOS server like; "http://<AosIpAddress>:<WSDLPort>/DynamicsAx/Services/OdataQueryService/"
This doesn't work for me and as part of trouble shooting I tried entering the same path in the browser (should give you an xml view), which brings me to a screen with the following message;
“The server encountered an error processing the request. The exception message is ‘Object reference not set to an instance of an object.’. See server logs for more details.” Then follows a long exception stack trace.
Any ideas on where to go from here would be much appreciated!

goshoomHi, if we want to bring data entity from data store in the directe query but if we want to add another simpl entity that's not existe in the data store us we know all we can't modify the source of data in the direct query and we can't merge the import and the directquery in this case what we could do because i want to costomiz the Actulas vs Budget Report and i want to add some dimension to it.I' will be appreciate for any help from you
Thanks Martin. It seems like a quite well defined scope that shouldn't take us forever.
The document I've linked in my reply is about AX 2012 R3; reading it should give you an idea.
It's true that AX 7 has an entity store as well, although it works a bit differently. It is a bit confusing, but we don't have to worry about the distinctions when we're discussion AX 2012 only.
Thanks bot Martin and Vilmos! I thought Entity Store is something that comes with AX7 / 365? Can it also be deployed for 2012 R3 on Prem? What would it take to get that deployed? Just a ballpark indication to get an idea. I actually finally got it to work the way I had in mind though. The reason for my issue was some invalid queries that were Active. Deactivating them solved that problem. You are right about the performance though. It is quite slow... Thanks for the guidance!
As Martin has mentioned, Microsoft has designed Entity Store as a PowerBI feed. Have a look at this:
www.daxrunbase.com/.../working-with-entity-store-and-dixf-in-ax
I don't recommend following this path, because performance of OData services in AX 2012 is pretty bad. Microsoft has a much more performant solution for this scenario: the Entity Store where you can connect from Power BI by Direct Query.
