w3wp service missing from Debugging process list in D365 F&O VHD

hi everyone,

Recently I upgraded one VHD from PU36 to PU37.

But after upgrading I cannot see w3wp service in the attach to process list.

I tried below options,

1. restarted IIS

2. ensured w3wp and w3c logging services running in services.msc

3. Marked checkbox of Show processes from all users

But I had no luck. Is it because of I am using missing some updates of Visual Studio and I must upgrade Visual Studio to 2017.

Please help.

Unless you're using a demo environment, you should be debugging IISExpress. Visual Studio shuts down IIS for you and works with IISExpress. If you manually start up IIS because VS shut it down, you'll likely have all sorts of weird problems with file locks or errors in VS.

Just use IISExpress, when in Visual Studio. DO NOT start or stop IIS manually.

Only Demo VM doesn't use IISExpress.

    Hi Gunjan,

You are great. I haven't imagined this would be as easier as you told. Thanks a lot :) I can see the process now.

    Hi,

Check if IISExpress is being used? If it is then you need to attache debugger to IISExpress.exe rather than w3wp.

    Hi Rhushikesh,

Are you running the application in a browser? If not, can you log into D365 F&O and try attaching the debugger to the process?
