Hi All,

We have requirement from client where they want to implement NAGIOS server monitoring plugin for the windows server where AX 2012 is installed.

Can anyone help me with the impact and precautions need to be taken to install NAGIOS on the windows server which has AX 2012.

regards,

Maneendra

The best practice is not to have any software that can hold locks on the Windows file system, since AX does dump temporary tables and caches objects on disk as physical files.

If those are locked even for the slightest amount of time by an anti-virus, or a monitoring tool, it is disastrous and can lead to anything from odd behavior to AX AOS instability and crashing.

You should only use the monitoring tools that is accessible via the Windows Management Instrument interface. AX does provide such figures as well, and any monitoring tool that just passively accesses that information is considered to be safe. Such tools are for example the Windows Performance Monitor /more simpler features/, and Microsoft System Center Operations Manager (SCOM) /advanced features specifically capturing and monitoring relevant information using the AX SCOM package/.

Also do not forget that anything which interferes with your network is also bad for the health of your environment. Anything inspecting the network packets coming and going from the AX AOS service towards the other AOSes, third party application via AIF, or the SQL Database itself is a risk. We absolutely do not want any interruptions and slowness for network packets, that is essential for satisfactory performance in order to have the fastest response times from the DB. Some hardware tools might be better for doing this, who can process packets in alternate streams.

I would check with that software's vendor on how does their product operate exactly before moving forward.
