Point Microsoft Gp application to existing database.

Hello Team,

Good Morning.

My system gets crash because of a hardware issue. I am having a backup of the Gp database on one drive.

Previously Gp was installed on that system and it was working fine. Due to a system crash, I have installed GP on the new system. In the installation process,

I pointed out the existing database in the ODBC Data Source. After the installation, it creates a system database and sample company database. Not point to the existing database.

My main question was How would I point the GP application to an existing database. Is that any setting or configuration should I have to do to achieve this result.

Kindly so suggest me. So that Gp runs from an existing database, not from the new database.

Thanks and Regards,

Satyajit Bhapkar.

    In the Dex.ini of the GP directory, there is a line such as this:

    Pathname=DYNAMICS/dbo/

    This is what tells the GP code when you launch it, what system database to look for, then it uses the SY01500 table to know what company databases it has.

    The ODBC DSN itself, used to connect GP to SQL should not have a database specified, per KB 870416.

    Thanks

    Please note that if you change the ODBC DSN to the new server address, only 'sa' will work to login.

    All the other users will fail as their encrypted passwords will no longer work because the encryption algorithm includes the DSN in its calculations.

    PS: GP Power Tools Database Validation can be used to recreate all the users with generated passwords and email the users their temporary password so they can change them on next login.
