Clear Account Balance on Old Account Structure

Hello,

We have some old accounts we'd like to clean up, however, we made a change to the account structure configuration and can no longer post to some dimension values.  The main account has a zero balance, however, if we filter by location and department, there are still balance.  Do we have to go back to the old structure to clear out the balance?

    Hi Jlampe,

    If the Main Account has Zero Balance and when you filter by segment if you find balances try to Rebuild balance or update balance on the financial dimension Set. So that changes may be reflected.  If you still find balances than you need to activate the previous account structure and adjust the entries. So that changes will reflect.

    Hi Jon Lampe,

    From what you write, I assume that you removed the location and department from your account structure(s). Is that right?

    If my assumption is correct, why do want to clear the balances on those 'old' financial dimensions?

    If you do not use them anymore, you are probably not interested in them. Why can't you leave the amounts sitting on those dimensions?

    In case you really want to cleanse them, you have to add the removed financial dimensions back to your account structure, cleanse the balances on those financial dimensions before you remove them again. But as I said, I can't see the necessity to do that. Maybe you can provide some additional insights into this requirement?!

    Thanks for the responses.  We have removed the dimensions from the main accounts, and they no longer necessary.  We'd like to clear the balances on the dimension values because when we run a trial balance (or similar report) filtered by those values it looks like there are still balances in main accounts.  As this would be more of a preference than requirement, it sounds like it may be more work than it is worth.  Thanks again for your assistance.
