Journal upload via Excel add-in, without preloading in D365

My organisation have begun a migration to D365FO and our finance department have a requirement to be able to upload journals directly from Excel without first having to login, create a journal batch number in D365FO, and open in Excel.  The purpose is so that they can have a standard journal template in Excel on a worksheet, with additional calculation worksheets in the same Excel workbook to populate the journal entries required.

Is this possible using journal templates or some other solution so that a correctly populated journal in Excel can be uploaded to D365FO and then the next sequential batch number automatically assigned to the uploaded journal, with the journal then going into an approval flow?

Apologies if this has been discussed elsewhere but I have not been able to find the answer elsewhere on the forums, perhaps because it is not possible!

    Hello Stoney37,

You can do this with the help of electronic reporting.

What you need to do in addition to designing the ER model, ER model mapping and configuration is specifying a source, such as a SharePoint document library where people put the file into so that it can then be grabbed by the next batch run and be uploaded.

This does not need any login or something alike; just a proper setup of ER.

    Best regards,

    Ludwig

Thank you Ludwig, I think our users would want to still be able to publish from Excel on demand rather than await any batch processing - is this possible at all or do you need to use a proper ER solution to achieve the rest of the process?

    Hi Stoney37,

You don't need a batch job and SharePoint but could run the upload directly from the ER workspace.

I thought the batch job solution with sharepoint is the more comfortable one :-)

    Best regards,

    Ludwig

A quick google for "Electronic Reporting D365" shows me you have written about this previously so I will review the materials.  Thank you.

    Hi Stoney37,

I have not done this myself. In theory it would be possible to create a new header via the Excel add-in. Then in the template, you have to change the filter to the new journal number.
