SQL TRANSACTION LOG FILE SIZE TOO BIG 500 GB HOW TO TRANCATE THE LOG FILE.

Hello,

I am using backend SQL SERVER 2005 FOR MY AX VERSION 2009

SQL TRANSACTION LOG FILE SIZE TOO BIG 500 GB  HOW TO TRUNCATE THE LOG FILE AND FREE UNUSED SPACE 

I AM FACING PERFORMANCE ISSUES..

 SQL TRANSACTION LOG LDF FILE 500 GB

DATABASE MDF FILE 50 GB

SERVER FREE SPACE 50 GB


HOW TO TRUNCATE THE TRANSACTION LOG FILE.


MY RECOVERY MODEL IS FULL AND I DID N'T TAKE FULL BACKUP BEFORE. BUT NOW FULL BACKUP PROCESS IS IN PROGRESS...


GIVE ME THE BEST SOLUTION FOR THIS PROBLEM...


SWITCH TO SIMPLE MODEL WILL AFFECT THE DATABASE FILE.

TO TRANCATE LOG FILE

AM PLANNING TO SWITCH SIMPLE AND THEN BACK TO FULL..


PLEASE GIVE ME YOUR BEST SOLUTION..

    SQL Server reduces size of T-Log in following steps:

    1.Take backup of Transaction Log (right click on db->click on tasks->backup->here select Transaction log in backup type then press ok for t-log backup)

    2.Take backup of Full db(right click on db->click on tasks->backup->here select full in backup type then press ok for t-log backup)

    3.Right click on db->tasks->shrink->database

    this way your db size will be reduced to original.

    Chage the recovery Model of the database to Simple and then revert it back to Full.

    You should have a scheduled maintenance task to deal with the transaction log size.
