How to stop data on Item cards from being edited?

We've created a Profile where a user can see the list of 'Items' in Nav, but have removed all the 'edit' related icons from the ribbon.  However when the user double clicks on the item, to view the Item card, they have the ability to 'edit' the data (even though no 'edit' icons are shown).  'Standard Functionality' has been quoted; but I can't believe that there isn't a way to 'view' but not 'edit' Items (or BoMs / PO's / Vendors) etc.  All help appreciated

did you remove the write permission to the item table?

did you test if these users can really change an item on the item card?

    Hi,

Yes have tested it with a user, but no, haven't tried removing the write permission from the item table.   How would I do this and can the permission be removed by role profile?

    cheers

in the search textbox (right top corner in the rtc) write premission set. then change the permission set, which is set to the user. that changes the permissions for all users, which use that permission set.

    Hi,

You need to change the permission on table data of "Item" by removing the modify and delete permission. I suggest to copy existing permission set and create new one with this change and then assign this permission set to the user.

For permission set you can follow archer suggestion.

    msdn.microsoft.com/.../dd338839(v=nav.70).aspx

If you want a user to void making any changes to data, best way is to set the permission level at the root level. Which is the table level. If you set the permission at the page level, user will find ways to use other pages to make the changes and in NAV there are many pages that do the same functionality. So easiest method is to set the permission to table level.

As everyone suggested, to set the permission to table level you need to modify permission set.

First search for "Permission Set" and then make a copy of your original permission set.

Then click the "permission" in that you will see all the tables that are given the access right.

Remove access right for Item table.
