Inactive Items - How to deal with them

Hi Guys,

Just would like to hear your ideas regarding how to deal with those inactive items.

We are in food manufacturing business, where the menu change pretty frequently.

As a result, there are so many inactive items that may, sometimes, have one month or two transactions in the item ledge.

Is there a way to re-use those items or just leave them inactive?

My concern:

1. Re-use the items for a different item will change the name, Unit of Measure etc. which will cause chaos in item transaction ledges.

2. If just leave them inactive, the items will pile up and it will look pretty messy there in the Item section.

How do you guys normally deal with those items?

Thank you.

You have an option on the Item Card to block the respective item (just place a tick mark on the Blocked field).  That's the best way, so that in future, you may refer them, in case you need the historical data.

It is not recommended to use blocked item .It is always better to leave them inactive as it may be associated with ILE .

You need to check how item are created and need to control the mistake from users to prevent the long list of blocked item.

    Hi Amol,

    Thanks for the reply.

It is not mistakes from users, but the nature of business where some items may only used on temporary basis.

So I guess there is no way to minimise the blocked item, have to let them pile up?  Now we have 400 active items and roughly 200 blocked items.

If you have way to customize your Item List page, you may create two pages, one for displaying the active items and the other for "Blocked" items.  That way you may narrow down your list of Items.

    hi way_mars ,

as per my knowledge , there is no issue or any defect happen if you block the item , its a feature of Item card , even we also using block feature (Temp/Permanent)

Only effect if  you block the item , that block item cannot be able to any transition(eg : PO/SO/TO and etc)

rest of the case according to your requirement you can either block or keep it as it is

    its up to u ,

but not recommended  Re-use the item ,  dont do it

I am in a very similar situation. We have a few hundred items that are no longer used and they just clog up the view. The blocked solution doesn't work for me as we sometimes block certain items on purpose when the stock is low - and then unblock them when the stock is replenished. Is there no way of deleting those items? I get an error that it is not possible due to Item Ledger Entries history.
