Project beginning balances - sheet other than the starting balance

Hi,

What will be the consequences of posting the opening balance of projects not in the beginning balance journal, but in the expense journal? 
The client wants the opening balance transactions to be reflected in the General Ledger.
The topic applies to "expense" transactions only.
