How to move custom reports from GP 9 to GP 10

 Hello everyone,

Our company is migrating from GP 9 to GP 10. We have a lot of custom Cyrstal Reports and FRx Reports.

I have compressed our Crystal Reports into a .package file. However I have no clue on how to import those files to GP 10... How about FRx Reports?

Can anyone please clarify me on this one? Thanks very much in advanced for your help, greatly appreciate it!

    hi,

did you upgrade frx and crystal to a new version too? are you using a different SQL server?  it not there should be no changes.

Hi Sunbeam de Jesus, thanks for your reply!

In GP 9, we're using FRx 6.7 and Crystal Report 9, and we're going to use the same version in GP 10. I'm sure both version match in GP 10, but please correct me if I'm wrong.

We actually are going to move our database from SQL 2000 in the old GP 9 server to SQL 2005 in the new GP 10 server. Is there anything that needs to be done differently here?

Thanks in advanced for your help in this, appreciate it!

    Hi Elizabeth,

both Frx and crystal reports are external to GP application. the only thing you need to change is your ODBC.

visit control panel, ODBC and edit your sql server from old to new. if you can use the Old ODBC name and just edit the server name that would be good in this case you dont have to edit Frx company and crystal setup anymore.

but you  might as well wanted to install latest SP for Frx, we are now into SP10. if your frx is below SP 9 then you need to install SP9 first before you install SP10.

I am not sure whats the latest crystal report verison at this time.

Hi. What version of FRx are you currently running? 6.7? Its likely you won't have to upgrade anything in FRx.

If you do need to, check partnersource / customersource for info. The FRx report spec exports / upgrade documents are all there. Also, be sure to make plenty of backups. I would go to every workstation and back up its FRx application folder. Check where its sysdata folder is and back this up, check where its spec sets are stored and back this up. Also back up any shared data on the server.....do this first, and then and only then attempt to upgrade.

    Best regards.

Hi all, sorry about that. For some reason I didn't see all the replies below the original post before I posted.

Sunbeam is 100%. If you're on 6.7 FRx then there is no issue other than a simple ODBC change. (if you create a new odbc, and you have local installs in each workstation, your company set up data in FRx might have to be amended on each workstation to use the new ODBC).

Just to provide a few more details on Crystal...

You can stay on the same version of Crystal when updating GP and only change your ODBC as mentioned above.

If you are on an older version of Crystal (prior to XI) and want to update, DON'T!  Do one upgrade at a time.  Bring GP up to 10 and let things settle.  Later, upgrade Crystal by installing the XI version on all workstations using the report writer and, at one workstation, open each report in XI, allow the software to update the report, then save them back.

I would like to second Richard's advice - that is exactly what I would recommend.

Thank you so much for all the replies. I'm going to continue using FRx 6.7 and Crystal Report 9.

EDIT: I was trying to import my Crystal custom reports but encounter an error. Yudin, your post in this link works well! http://www.microsoft.com/communities/newsgroups/en-us/default.aspx?dg=microsoft.public.greatplains&tid=3884839b-5dc1-4531-8aad-efbc750d7547&cat=&lang=&cr=&sloc=&p=1

Thanks again for the great support!
