Extracting Tables from Cloud to a SQL Server Database then building ssrs reports on top of this - Best Practice

Hi,

We are using Microsoft Dynamics AX 365 For Operations, I want to do the following and was wondering if anyone out there how an answer to my questions:

  • Creating a new Entity, is there a ERD so I can see the relationships as I am struggling what relates to what i.e.  it is a one to one, one to many join, which fields are the Primary Keys, Foreign Keys etc...
  • Is there an ODBC Driver that I can use to connect to an Entity and bring this across to a SQL Server Database
  • Once I have the Entity or Tables on a Database, what Entity/Tables do we need for security? So If I was to then create an SSRS report and a user opens a report I need to have a way of know what information they are allowed to see? So for each table in AX is there a role Id to say who is allowed to see what etc..

Thanks

There isn't any complete ERP diagram, but you can see relations, primary keys and so on in the metadata.

No driver will help you - you simply won't get permissions to access the production database. But you can actively push data from Operations to another database, as explained in Export Dynamics AX”7” Entities to your own Azure SQL Database.

If you want SSRS reports that respect AX security, use the reporting framework already included in the product. It's based on SSRS.
