Calculating two sales tax codes on one sale invoice

Posted on by 55

In our UK project we are facing a special sales tax challenge where part of a sale (87%) is seen as healthcare and hence customer is exempt for paying sales tax and the other part (13%) is seen as normal product sale and hence subjected to sales tax of 20%.

I am wondering if there is any kind of out of the box solution in AX (2012R3) where you are able to calculate two sales tax on one sale?

keep in mind that we in our invoice have to document both sales tax value and the percentage split of the same.

    Hi Pathris,

I checked that in a standard contoso environment but have not found a solution other than adjusting the sales tax base amounts and sales tax amounts in the adjustment form.

If you find another way how to tweak AX then please share.

Otherwise, you can either make use of this manual overwrite functionality or implement a system modification.

    Best regards,

    hi Ludwig,

Yes, I need both sales tax codes, both on the print, but also in  AX postings. Dividing the amount origin calculation as well.

in the print (and Ideally also in AX) the print should should :

    • amount total :   1000
    • VAT base calculation:   870
    • VAT %: 0%
    • VAT: 0.00
    • VAT base calculation: 130
    • VAT: 20%
    • VAT: 26.00

    Hello Pathris,

Do you really need 2 tax codes or would one be sufficient?

If you can use a single one you can specify that 87% of the amount is tax free.

    Best regards,

    Ludwig

    hi Ludwig,

I was expecting you to reply me on this one :)

The solution you are proposing, I have tried that, however, what that does is that it calculated the amount origin twice, once for each "calculated" sales tax code, hence taking the amount origin twice into consideration.

What we need is the split both with amount origin and the calculated sales tax in 87/13 split.

    Hello Pathris,

    This sounds feasible.

Do you have access to the standard contoso environments? If so, check the sales tax setup in USMF. There you will find a number of examples how multiple tax codes can be applied to a single SO line.

    Best regards

    Ludwig
