We were introduced Microsoft Dynamics 2012 AX recently. I was wondering if anyone is using it for their IT inventory management. I have tried searching for videos and examples of how Dynamics can be used to inventory our IT equipment but I was not able to find anything resourceful to my needs. Has anyone tried using Dynamics to keep track of their IT equipment and who the equipment is assigned to?

One option is using the fixed asset module for that purpose. It allows you tracking the cost center/location/owner/etc, the costs and all the details related to your equipment provided that you use it for your own internal purposes.
If you are renting that IT equipment out to other parties you might need to implement some modifications or make use of an add-on.
