Good morning, afternoon, or evening depending on your location!
Hope you are well today :)

Restoring a Dynamics GP SQL database to Azure for SSRS and Power BI reporting is definitely possible, and there are a few approaches to consider:
Options for Running SQL DB on Azure for SSRS & Power BI
    1. Azure SQL Managed Instance
      • If you need full SQL Server compatibility, an Azure SQL Managed Instance is a great choice.
      • It supports SQL Agent, SSRS, and linked servers, making it ideal for Dynamics GP reporting.
    2. Azure SQL Database (PaaS)
      • If you only need Power BI reporting, you can restore your GP database to Azure SQL Database.
      • Keep in mind that SSRS is not natively supported in Azure SQL Database, so you may need an alternative reporting solution.
    3. Azure Virtual Machine with SQL Server
      • If you want full SSRS functionality, deploying SQL Server on an Azure VM allows you to run SSRS just like an on-prem setup.
      • This option provides the most flexibility but requires VM management.
    4. Power BI Direct Query or Dataflows
      • If SSRS isn’t a requirement, you can use Power BI Direct Query to connect to Azure SQL Database.
      • Dataflows can also be used to transform and store GP data for reporting.
    Key Considerations
    • Performance: Azure SQL Managed Instance offers better performance for GP workloads than Azure SQL Database.
    • Licensing Costs: Azure VM with SQL Server may have higher costs due to compute and storage.
    • SSRS Hosting: If SSRS is critical, an Azure VM is the best option. Otherwise, consider Power BI Paginated Reports.

    Hope this is helpful :)

Granted I don’t know anything about Dynamics GP, but I’d start by seeing how far I can come with just installing the Microsoft On-Premises data gateway against a test environment before restoring a backup to Azure.

What are your needs exactly? Do you want to set up analytics against the database?
