Error: Can not open items list in Excel from Webclient

Posted on by Microsoft Employee

Hello,

We are using the Microsoft Dynamics Office Add-in (fantastic tool!) with NAV 2017, and it workes fine for most lists. But for items I get the error "There was an error loading the object." when I push the "Edit in Excel" button. Does anyone know how this can be fixed?

    Hello guys,

Sorry for not replying to you on this matter - truth is it got forgotten in an hectic work day :(

Anyway, a CU update did the trick, and with CU7 (haven't checked with earlier CUs) it works like a charm to update the item list in Excel.

    Hi Chris,

When the NAV 2017 Edit in Excel function doesn't work, it's usually a result of a couple of missing steps. For instance, have you set up Azure AD to authenticate users?

How about the SSL certificate? If you are using a self-signed certificate (or not using one at all), you are likely to run into some issues there as well.

You can read more about properly configuring this functionality here: msdn.microsoft.com/.../configuring-dynamics-nav-excel-addin

I hope this helps. If it does, please take a moment to verify the answer by clicking yes next to "Does this answer your question!"

    Chris Maske ,

as i see in your screen shot : you are using "Edit In Excel" button , please do not use that for export

what u need to use is "Open In Excel" button

if you don't have "Open In Excel" go to ribbon and add it , to add this you need to log through windows client

.. hope your issue is close :)

My best guess would be that you have some customization made on the items list which results in this error - or, there is some error in SQL data in some record (e.g., mismatch of data and record type, input manually on database level). Can you check, is this error replicated in native client?

@Dmitry Katson: This is a super user with all permissions. Can there still be some security rights for the user?

@Maneesha De Silva: Yes, I can export to Excel from the Windows client. Please do note that I am then talking about the Print & Send to Excel (CTRL + E), and for Webclient I am using the Export to Excel.

@Indika: This is a clean install that should not have any customization's at all, from what I know.

I will try the debugger and get back to you. Haven't tried it before, but will read up and test it out ASAP :)

    Thanks guys!

    Hi Chirs

When I see the conversation it is clear that it is not the Compatibility issue.

I'm sure there is some customization done related to the item list page or item Table as Maneesh suggested you debug it you might be able to find the problem.

    Chris Maske ,

I have just check form you even nav 2013 R2 version also compatible with this , there are no issue you can export excel on item card

can you check that windows client is working for this export

usually this message not receiving for any permission or security issue , have you done any customization ?

"error loading object" seems some thing not functional issue

can you debug and check this ?

If other pages work fine, and item list not, I can guess that problem can accour in security rights of user.

    Hello Maneesha,

    Thanks for replying!

It works perfectly fine to open other lists in Excel, and this problem occurs in all the browsers i tried. So I guess it's not comparability problem. :)
