Hi I see "Company chain" is under set up for Prospect, I am wondering what are the usual scenarios to use Company chain?

The field is mostly used for filtering data on some of the reports. Fields used where there are multiple companies under a single chain. E g. Amazon has so many companies underneath, but ultimately Amazon is the parent. So fill in Amazon in this fields if we have different companies as different prospect/customer in AX. This let's you determine all Amazon related companies.

It’s a self definable field meaning you can make up the name and description. Here is a video about the vendor chain, which is similar in principle to customers and prospects. Hope it helpful for you.

It does not provide you out of the box parent-child relationships that you can directly analyze if you are looking for that.
