Access denied error causes Quality Updates failure

Hello all,

There are 4 different DEV environments of version 10.014 recently updated to 10.015, lets say environments A, B, C and D. There was no any development activity happened at any of them yet, until recently updated all to version 10.0.15 (10.0.644.20017).

Then, development activity occurred on the first 2 environments, A and B, and by the chance their VM Admin password was changed on both A and B.

Then, Quality Updates on A and B fail with error: Error running script. RemoteMachine: 'xxxxxxxxxxx.cloudapp.azure.com:xxxxxx/' Username: 'builtin\Adminfxxxxxx'. [5]:Connecting to remote server xxxxxxxxxxx.cloudapp.azure.com failed with the following error message : Access is denied. For more information, see the about_Remote_Troubleshooting Help topic.

Quality Updates on C and D can be applied with no issues. And on another DEV environment E, where the VM Admin password has also been changed, recent Updates are also applied with no issues.

Any idea what might be wrong on A & B, and how to fix it in order to apply latest quality updates?

    RE: Access denied error causes Quality Updates failure

    @André,

    thanks again for suggestion and video-instructions on changing the password policy.

    Resetting Maximum password age to 0 deactivated the often password change requirement.

    Additionally to that, resetting Enforce password history to 0 allowed me to change password to original and apply Quality Updates. :-)

    An additional special cases note: In one case “Failed to open the Group Policy object on this computer” error blocked me to open Local Group Policy for changing, and this link helped me to bypass that problem.

    So, everything is good now, and I can apply Quality Updates to all my A, B,  & D environments.

    I send them a private message as well, just in case they need reported user confirmation, so I guess that the matter should be certainly closed now.

    I should be more careful in the future with such dangerous mouse of mine! :-)

    You can send a private message to community.dynamics.com/.../community-manager

    But actually I already did that so I think that's enough :) Thanks anyway.

    @Nikolaos, A few months back, I got "banned" where my answers ended up in a moderation queue (lol). That can be solved by the Community administrators.

    @Yiannis, next to changing the password or redeploy a new environment, you can also change the password policy: dynamicspedia.com/.../

    I am terribly sorry for this mistake! There should be an option to recall mistaken reports, lol.

    And thanks again.

    HI Yiannis,

    I'm not sure if you can revoke the report.  But I assume I will not be banned from the forums because of that mistake :) Let's hope.

    Thank you for answers.

    @Nikolaos,

    I tried to thank you and see other actions available,

    and by mistake I reported you for abuse!

    How I can revoke my mistaken report on you?

    Hi Yiannis,

    I've just noticed that applying updates or packages from LCS will not work if you change the admin password. So, therefore you should not change it.

    I can't tell why your one system is working even though you say that you have changed the password.

    But to prevent such issues, try to not change the password. And to fix the issue, try to redeploy the system. This should solve your problems and prevent new ones.

    Hi Nikolaos,

    is this a new rule, about not changing the Admin password?

    My environment #5 mentioned, which might be a bit older than #1 & #2, has also its password changed and not having the issue!
