Access denied error causes Quality Updates failure

Hello all,

There are 4 different DEV environments of version 10.014 recently updated to 10.015, lets say environments A, B, C and D. There was no any development activity happened at any of them yet, until recently updated all to version 10.0.15 (10.0.644.20017).

Then, development activity occurred on the first 2 environments, A and B, and by the chance their VM Admin password was changed on both A and B.

Then, Quality Updates on A and B fail with error: Error running script. RemoteMachine: 'xxxxxxxxxxx.cloudapp.azure.com:xxxxxx/' Username: 'builtin\Adminfxxxxxx'. [5]:Connecting to remote server xxxxxxxxxxx.cloudapp.azure.com failed with the following error message : Access is denied. For more information, see the about_Remote_Troubleshooting Help topic.

Quality Updates on C and D can be applied with no issues. And on another DEV environment E, where the VM Admin password has also been changed, recent Updates are also applied with no issues.

Any idea what might be wrong on A & B, and how to fix it in order to apply latest quality updates?

I have the same question (0)

    Hi Yiannis Manatos,

Please try to reset the password of axlocaladmin to the initial ones.  The script may be using the wrong value because of that VM deployed by LCS forces to change its password periodically by default.

    Hi Will,

how can I reset the password to the original (VM Windows policy does not allow me change it to older passwords).

    Btw,

environment E (under a different LCS project) Admin password is also changed but it has no problems with updating.

How is possible to have such a problem only with environments A & B?

    Hi partner,

I think it will also happen when certificates expired.

Please try to rotate the expired certificates:

This is the VM corresponding certificates folder, do you think there is a certificates issue?

You should not change the admin password of Cloud hosted environments.

The easiest and cheapest solution is to deploy new systems. I always recommend it if you have any issues that would take more than 1-2 hours to resolve.

    Hi Nikolaos,

is this a new rule, about not changing the Admin password?

My environment #5 mentioned, which might be a bit older than #1 & #2, has also its password changed and not having the issue!

    Hi Yiannis,

I've just noticed that applying updates or packages from LCS will not work if you change the admin password. So, therefore you should not change it.

I can't tell why your one system is working even though you say that you have changed the password.

But to prevent such issues, try to not change the password. And to fix the issue, try to redeploy the system. This should solve your problems and prevent new ones.

    Thank you for answers.

    @Nikolaos,

I tried to thank you and see other actions available,

and by mistake I reported you for abuse!

How I can revoke my mistaken report on you?

    HI Yiannis,

I'm not sure if you can revoke the report.  But I assume I will not be banned from the forums because of that mistake :) Let's hope.
