maintaining separate licence plates through transfer order picking

For serialised items we are license plating for an individual item. on picking for a transfer order we wish to pick and put retaining each license plate so we can receive at the destination by the same individual license plate, can anyone advise a suitable set up as currently picking collates several items into a single target licence plate

Hi Nigel Martindale 99

As my Clients have different configurations based on F&B Industry, my configurations might vary from your things, but below is the set-up configuration of the same, provided along with snips for reference:

Step-by-Step Configuration
1. Enable “Use existing license plate” for picking
Go to:
Warehouse management > Setup > Work > Work templates
Select your Transfer order picking work template.
Click Edit query → check the Directive code or Work order type.
Under General, enable:
Use existing license plate during pick

2. Adjust the Location Directive (Pick)
Go to: Warehouse management > Setup > Location directives
Filter for Work order type = Transfer issue.
Open your Pick directive.
On the Lines → Edit query, ensure:
No grouping by LP.
You’re not forcing a “Single target LP per work” behavior.
Under Actions, uncheck Group by item, Group by batch, etc.
This allows the system to generate separate work lines per LP or serial.

3. Check Serial Tracking Configuration
Go to: Product information management > Released products > Tracking dimension group
For serialized items:
Ensure Active in inventory and Active in sales are both enabled.
Uncheck Blank receipt allowed.
Enable Serial number control on-hand tracking.

4. Work Template Target LP Control
In your Work template (Transfer order issue):
Ensure the Pick line has:
Work creation process = Pick and Put
Directive code aligned with your LP-based location directive.
Do not use “Consolidate target LP” or “Group by LP” options.
This stops the system from merging multiple serials into one LP.

5. Mobile Device Menu Item Setup
Go to: Warehouse management > Setup > Mobile device > Mobile device menu items
For your Transfer order picking menu item:
Mode: Work creation process
Work creation process: Transfer order picking
In the General FastTab, enable:
Use existing license plate
Generate license plate (No)
This ensures warehouse workers pick against each serialized LP, not create new ones.

CA Vijay Krishna, in the work template under General tab, there is no option to enable "use existing license plate during pick" which you pointed to license plate build configuration field. Can you clarify this?

Hi,

Yes it is possible to ship and receive the same license plate. As you shared that one license plate is one item can you confirm if one license plate contains multiple qty of same item or just one qty per license plate.

Below is an example of shipping and receiving same license plate for serialized item when one license plate is 1 qty.

1 - On hand for an item as below

2 - Create a transfer order. In cases where one license plate is one item and one qty make sure you keep packing qty as 1.

3 - In the work templates make sure you flag the 'Packing qty as max" check mark

4 - Release the transfer order to warehouse and you will get two works one for each license plate. As one license plate in this case is one item and one qty.

5 - Start picking on mobile device by scanning original license plate

6 - Ship transfer order so that its status changes to Shipped

7 - Receive original license plates in receiving warehouse.

Let me know if you store multiple qty of same item one same license plate where they all have a unique serial number.

In my case I have multiple license plates, each with a quantity of the item to ship greater than one, but I need to ship each license plate and receive the same license plates. Currently, Dynamics tends to always group the license plates when processing the work for the Transfer Issue phase with mobile device. I have tried various settings but I cannot solve the problem
