Cutting/Splitting up an item

Hi all,

My company is dealing with 2nd hand computers. So when we purchase a old computer from the vendor, how do we split the computer to different parts (e.g. Screws, disk drives, memory card etc). Is it possible to use a production order?

To split the item to different components, you have to make the item as Assembly Item.

You don't have to create a production order as you can use the Assembly order.

You can check these link for more information

    Hi,

How do I use Assembly Order? Because like i want to cut the fabric to different sizes (e.g. L, M and S). Is it a 1 step thing that I can cut the fabric to 3 different parts and the inventory level will go up after the order is posted?

Assembly orders are used to assemble and de-assemble items, so you can make sale for the assembled item or any other parts in the assembly item, as it can be implemented on Computer parts.

For the Fabric, it is another case, and i think it might use Production order instead of Assembly order.

According to your business case scenario you have to choose whether to use production order or assembly order.

    Hi,

sorry I don't agree with Ahmed as Assembly or Production orders in standard NAV are used to create 1 product out of multiple products, but not other way round (I think from NAV2013 on-wards).

Because you don't know how many of each components you get when purchasing the computer (so you can't set up any specific rules), the quickest way to get round this is to post the Item Journal - negative adjustment on the computer and positive adjustment on parts. The downside is costing, which will have to be managed manually on the journal.

Of course, you could use the Production Journal for output by manipulating the Components list and output list on the production journal itself, but that is a lot of fiddling and still need to adjust stock using Item Journal afterwards.

I would support Robertas here. Regarding automatic disassembly of assembly orders you can read here: blogs.msdn.microsoft.com/.../disassembly-in-microsoft-dynamics-nav-2013-assembly-management.

The fastest way is to write-down the initial item and bring back to books the parts.

    Hello,

You will likely need to use the Item Journal and do On-Hand adjustments to remove the computer out of stock, and then add into stock all of the components.

The only other option might be to create the Purchase Order with all of the Items listed separately, but to do that you would have to know all the parts in the computer before you create the purchase order.
